Hot House: Boys’ School Development Programme
Smock Alley is inviting theatre companies, collectives, collaborators, and teams to submit their projects for the 2023 Boys’ School Development Programme. This programme offers a unique opportunity for companies to test and develop their scripts or projects with a dedicated team of actors, designers, and dramaturgs.
The selected groups will be offered a week-long workshop at The Boys School, with on-site technicians available to provide lighting and sound support. The support offered includes a full fee of €625 per person for up to six people. The fees can be assigned to actors, designers, skilled technicians, dancers, choreographers, and stage management, and each project will spend a week at The Boys School.
The scheme will be managed by Lucy Ryan, the Director of Programming at Smock Alley, alongside Pamela McQueen, Smock’s Artist in Residence, who will also serve as a dramaturg. Pamela will provide three dramaturgy sessions before, during, and after the week to plan for, explore, and reflect on the artistic discoveries made during the programme.
At the end of each week, the participating companies will be asked to present a short sharing or presentation for colleagues or collaborators they wish to invite, along with the Smock Alley team. Feedback will be given on the work, with the intention of providing creative support to help with further development.
The programme offers a valuable opportunity for companies to develop their projects with a dedicated team of professionals and receive constructive feedback. The submission deadline is yet to be announced, and three weeks in July and August 2023 are available for the selected groups.
