Ulster Orchestra: Bella Italia
In a delightful culmination of the season, Music Director Daniele Rustioni will act as the tour guide, leading music enthusiasts on a captivating musical visit to Italy at Ulster Hall - Belfast.
The event will take place on 26 May 2023 at 19:45, offering attendees a unique opportunity to immerse themselves in a rich repertoire of Italian-inspired compositions. Berlioz’s “Harold in Italy” and Elgar’s “In the South” are the first two works on the programme, both inspired by Byron’s Childe Harold. Talented violist Timothy Ridout will assume the role of Harold in Berlioz’s piece, portraying the observer of the ever-changing Italian landscapes through music that evokes joy and emotion.
Elgar’s “In the South” introduces a touch of romantic melancholy and dramatic intensity to the evening’s proceedings, providing a contrasting experience. Finally, the concert concludes with Respighi’s “Pines of Rome,” a composition that beautifully captures the interplay of light and shadow in different locations within the Eternal City. As the musical journey comes to a close, audiences will be transported to the final destination of the Appian Way, where the warmth of the sun will be palpable.
This exceptional concert marks the perfect way to bid farewell to the Ulster Orchestra 2022/23 Season, leaving attendees with a lasting impression of the diverse and evocative musical heritage of Italy.
Tickets for the event are available for purchase, ranging from £10.00 to £34.00, offering music enthusiasts the chance to participate in this enchanting musical experience.
