The RTÉ Concert Orchestra and iconic traditional rock group Moving Hearts are joining forces for a special St. Patrick’s Day event. This will be the first time the two groups perform together live. The band’s impressive lineup includes Donal Lunny on bouzouki, Davy Spillane on uilleann pipes and low whistles, Keith Donald on sax and bass clarinet, Eoghan O’Neill on bass, Noel Eccles on percussion, Anthony Drennan on guitars, Liam Bradley on drums, Graham Henderson on keyboards, and Mick Hanly on vocals. Together, they will create an extraordinary alchemy with the RTÉ CO and conductor Gavin Maloney.
The collaboration between Moving Hearts and the RTÉ Concert Orchestra first took place in 2020 during a special RTÉ Radio 1 St. Patrick’s Day broadcast, which was met with immediate and powerful acclaim. Listeners praised the combination as “sensational listening,” “pure and utter joy,” “incredible and very emotional,” and “tonic for the troops.” Now, audiences have the opportunity to experience this magical meeting in person, as the two groups perform the likes of McBrides, The Storm, Hiroshima Nagasaki Russian Roulette, Finore, Tribute to Peadar O’Donnell, An Phis Fhliuch, and The Titanic.
The power and intricate arrangements that Moving Hearts bring to their music, combined with the wonderful musicianship of the RTÉ CO, promise to make this a truly exceptional experience for any audience. This promises to be a thrilling and resonant way to celebrate St. Patrick’s Weekend.
